Short profile:The Social and Educational action established in 1997 the support Center for Children and Family.The Center has devoted its efforts to combating illiteracy and to supporting socially excluded children who belong to racial, ethnic or religious minorities and those who experience family problems as a result of racism and marginalization. The Center provides direct services through the Children’s Day Center and the Family Center, located in a rented building in Kolonos, a central area of Athens.
The Children’s Day Center functions as a learning institution, its primary mission being to prepare both children and parents to come to terms with the necessity of school and face it constructively. The ultimate objective is that the children be enrolled in local schools. The Family Center is also a problem-solving agency for the older family members, especially mothers, offering assistance with social, legal, health and educational matters.
The Center is a member of the European Anti-Poverty Network and the European Network for Street Children Worldwide. Also, the Center has been participating in European Commission programmes as well as in local projects.
