Short profile: | Associação Mais Cidadania (Plus Citizenship Association) is a youth, non profit, non-governmental association, not associated with any political parties, with a group of young associates with very different backgrounds. Its main goal is to promote citizenship, believing that the word is being build up according to our ability. The Association develops its activity to democratize skills and abilities to more positive attitudes and practices in our “living together” – societies that are more participated, more solidarity and inclusiveness, therefore more democratic and humans.\r\n\r\nIt works in three main areas: a) Investigation, discussion and production of didactic materials; b) Projects on Citizenship Education (Ready to Vote Projects); c) Participation in society (serving the community of Santa Catarina, where the headquarters of the Association is).\r\n \r\nHaving adopted an “Investigation-Action” methodology, the Association views itself as a learning community, working towards an Educative Society. In order to achieve this goal, the Association searches innovative perspectives for action, that can help turn to reality the potential for transformation and education that Citizenship possesses. This helps to complement the action of other institutions in the work field (such as schools), and to cooperate in the construction of solutions to the challenges of modern societies – building testing and evaluating projects for the promotion of “good attitudes” and “good practices”, that may be adopted in other contexts with multiplying effects.\r\n\r\nAs a “learning community”, the Association builds it action on the ability to involve in an active and conscious way, its associates and co-operators, organized in project teams (giving special importance to young members), and working in cooperation with other partner institutions.\r\nTherefore, all the activities of the Association are based on the work of young people, the support of experienced consulters, and the cooperation of several different institutions: academic and educational institutions, public institutions, cultural institutions, and other groups of different sorts. \r\n\r\nThis way, we try to work towards making real the potential of cooperation and getting involved in an active and efficient social network, in response to the present challenges of communities in a world that is permanently being built. \r\n |
