Name:Malo pozoriste Dusko Radovic
Country:Serbia
Short profile:Little Theatre DUŠKO RADOVIĆ was founded on May 27, 1948 as Puppet Theatre of the People’s Republic of Serbia, and it had its first opening night with Cinderella directed by Predrag Dinulovic on October 23, 1949 in the premises of Palas Hotel.

Our theatre is one of the best known and most esteemed children’s theatres in Serbia for the audience of children and young people, which celebrated its 60th anniversary in 2009. The principle concept of this theatre’s program relies on the conviction that theatre for children and the young must indeed correspond to reality by dealing with issues that are topical in modern society. Dusko Radovic Little Theatre has in the past years become the scene of an active dialogue primarily between the theatre and its audience. We are trying to regard the theatre democratically, as a scene of exchange of experience and ideas, a specific forum where an unending debate is going on between the theatre and objective reality. We wish our young spactators to become responsible and clever citizens in the society they live in, which will thanks to them become a much better place, but also responsible and clever spectators of some other future performances.

Our audience consists of children who have spent a significant portion of their childhood in an atmosphere of hatred and intolerance towards any difference, so we are facing a demanding task to instruct them about the fundamental concepts on which a serious civil society such as ours, we like to believe, will some day become. By introducing concepts of children’s rights, tolerance (interethnic, interreligious, intercultural), the right to be different, recognition and respect of diversities, into the vocabulary of young inhabitants of Belgrade who are the audience of our theatre, we are attempting to contribute to the establishment of cultural interconnection among children from different milieus and social groups which live in Serbia and help them to create a better system of values which will hopefully be a guarantee of a stable and prosperous future of Serbia.
