Short profile:• A community-based project that uses electronic music and artistic collaboration to improve cultural understanding and to form relationships.
o I intend to assemble teams of 2-3 individuals from different backgrounds to create a short video or art piece relating to a piece of music, creating an open dialogue between two mediums. After musicians and teams are paired, the artist teams will have about a month to work on the projects. After the projects are completed, I plan to feature interviews with the collaborative artists and musicians, as well as their finished projects, on my website. I am also hoping the projects would be presented or screened at an electronic music event or at larger musicals festivals that incorporate other art forms.
o From an artistic standpoint, the goal of creating more interest in and access to the arts, I hope to engage the community in an open dialogue about the experience of music and its effect on other forms of visual expression.
o From a sociological purpose, the project is aimed to have youth from different backgrounds work together and form a relationship through the collaborative project. When the works come together in dialogue, they tell fuller, more nuanced stories that exist in experience. I want to share this experience with a wider community of artists and encourage them to think of their work in concert with the works of others. If we think of art as a form of communication, this project is a conversation that encourages community on several ends-building relationships through the creation of art while improving cultural differences through collaboration.
