Short profile:Granby Island Community Centre Ltd is a community owned and led charitable organisation located in Devonport, Plymouth an area with exceptionally high levels of social exclusion and deprivation. The centre responds to the needs of its community through the delivery of a range of services e.g. informal and formal education, training [we have City and Guilds Awarding Body status], sports, physical exercise, leisure and recreational activities, health, holiday play schemes and youth activity and we support local social groups who use our premises for a variety of reasons e.g. older people, residents groups. It also has a free to use Information Communication Technology ICT suite and is an UK Online Centre, hosts a low cost computer recycling project and offers volunteer work placements, including isolated individuals [young people, unemployed and those with mental health issues] in need of support in gaining confidence in the work environment and gaining invaluable new skills.
