Short profile:FIAYC (Fifi s International African youth Club). based in Gateshead at Saint Marks Methodist Churh. FIAYC is a non profitable organisation which was established in November 2010 with the aims to reduce isolation and promote cultural exchange of young African people who came to Britain due to trauma in their home countries. Our club welcomes young people from all nationalities age 5-25 as we see this as a way of breaking down barriers between cultures. We organise different activities at youth level such as dance, drama, music, art and craft, and we produce shows to the local community. We have over 90 registered children and young people who come from various countries including local children. We also organise educational trips to various sites. We work together with volunteers who motivates children and young people to take part in most of our activies. We have now developed a new project FIAYC Drop in Centre that opened its doors in early February 2012. The aim of opening this youth center is to create a safe environment for children and young people so that they could stay off the streets and spend their free time taking part in artistic activities because we think it is better to prevent than deal with their bad conduct due to boredom. Therefore, we stimulate mind, body and soul of children and young people with our FIAYC activities. The center offers a safe place for children and young people where they come to chill, chat, play games, read, quiet study space, use computers, art and craft etc.We are now developing our activities onto the international level so that young people could understand that they are part of Europe by taking part in youth exchange programmes and training.
