Short profile: | ProAtlântico - Associação Juvenil is a non-profit youth organisation, founded in 2001 in Oeiras Council (Porto Salvo), in Portugal and carries out projects with children, young people, elderly people, and disabled people.
Most of the activities with children and young people are sports tournaments, National and International exchanges, Summer Camps, entertaining and cultural activities and after school, as educational support. We develop leisure time projects in partnership with some Social Care organisations like Children’s Homes and Support Centers for Mentally and Physically Challenged People. With elderly people we develop projects in parnership with Daily Centers like Summer Camps, New Year’s Eve and cultural trips. We try to help these people to develop life skills in order to be more independent.
In 2003, we started to work with Youth Program, and we took part in several youth exchanges in (Estonia, Romania, Macedonia, Latvia, Germany, Italy, Portugal, Austria and France) and in several training courses and seminars around Europe. We are sending, hosting and coordinating organisation in EVS and hosted volunteers from several countries: Germany, Latvia, Austria, Albania, Serbia and Italy. In 2007 we started a project in schools to dinamize activities, informing youngsters about Youth in Action Program actions, mainly Youth Exchanges and EVS.
Today ProAtlântico – Associação Juvenil with his 600 members, gives special attention to needy people, and those with fewer opportunities and aims to give people the chance to establish contact with other cultures, in order to help them to find ways to deal with their own problems and to break the existing prejudices.
