Summary of the project:The volunteers will be fully integrated into the programme, working alongside staff and other volunteers. We will give the volunteer, depending on his needs and contributing skills, an assorted schedule of various activities. We are creating several workshops for example, theatre, plays, bingo evenings, art workshops; scarf making or beading, pottery and painting courses, as well as, interactive music circles. The volunteer will also have the opportunity to offer some cultural input, and if the volunteer feels comfortable with it, input about his/her disability into the programme. This could happen for example within visiting schools where the volunteer can share his/her experiences with the students, the volunteer can be an assistant to the teachers. The volunteer will, as well work, with the children of the local villages around Azinheira, leading and participating in games and songs, leading activities and teaching classes. Activities with the elderly in the community are also part of our efforts and there is much room for program creating. As we also work in the surrounding rural areas and other villages the volunteer will be involved in the programmes which are going on there at that time. We would also like to give the volunteer the opportunity to spend a day with one of the other volunteers or staff working at CSCB, to be a part of it and feel what daily life is like for this person. CSCB organizes also a lot of events like a Baile (traditional dance music), all kind of parties (matinees etc.) for the youth, a big amount of workshops (breake dancing, capoeira, graffiti art, etc.) and invites experienced persons to help with these. Taking part in these activities and preparing them will be the tasks a volunteer could potentially take on. We appreciate the skills the volunteer will bring and we will do our best to concentrate on the volunteer's needs as well. We are extremely happy to provide as much support and share all of our resources with this volunteer. In view of the fact that this project is part of the Youth Programme we will also spend time to explain the concept of the youth programme, their aims and rules, and what is expected of the volunteer. We will also give the volunteer the opportunity to visit other organisations, which work together with disabled people (e.g. CERCIGR
Special considerations:CSCB are open to hosting volunteers with fewer opportunities. So, the association will accommodate and support the volunteers in hotels or home stays, which have the special equipment, based on their disability. In Azinheira, as it is a small village, most of the buildings are not prepared for people with mobility needs, but we are from an area with less cultural, geographical and social opportunities and are extremely resourceful.
Besides, the volunteer will have a mentor whom will be available all day to help him in the normal tasks of the week. This person will help the volunteer with language barriers and also with cultural or social difficulties. If it is necessary the volunteer will also have his own guide helping her through his daily life needs based on her disability. Either it will be a person who the volunteer already knows and is currently responsible for the volunteers' needs in its own country, or we will arrange for a suitable support person. If it is necessary there will also be one other individual, (this could be another volunteer or a person who works at CSCB) who can assist and help.
CSCB already host some volunteers with special needs, such as (social or health problems), from many countries and they were always the necessary support.
