Within the project Involving Understanding Together, a group of four to six volunteers will work towards the development of youth with Children of Ecuador. The volunteer will arrive in a small village to the north of Quito and be introduced to the local childcare centre, La Casita. This centre is very important to the community, as it is the only one providing childcare to this particular neighbourhood It is not only a childcare centre but also a home for children who do not have a “home”. La Casita houses
12 children, who will live here full-time until they are independent young adults who attend school or have secured a job.
There are two different types of jobs available for volunteers under this project. Volunteers may choose between behaving as a mentor for a small child (ages 2-5) in the mornings and for an
older kid (ages 5-12) in the afternoons or staying at the centre full-time to work with the 12 children living as La Casita. The
most important aspect of these two projects is that the children receive positive attention and genuine care. Volunteers will also have the distinct possibility of creating and implementing their own projects for the foundation or within the local community.
