Summary of the project:Through Art To Understanding is a French-German-Icelandic-Polish-Spanish project, born out of the need of young people wanting to let go of discussions and get active in a creative way, using all kind of methods to share their thoughts about how it is to be an European!

The project is a continuation of an exchange which took place in 2008, the idea was born there, briefly discussed and developed during a study visit from the Polish Youth Worker Team in Iceland in October 2008. Among the aims of the project is that we want to improve our understanding of Europe and European citizenship and to promote intercultural learning and to plan our exchange in a way that the local community will also profit form our project. Through the exchange we want to offer the participants tools that will help them to overcome barriers and stereotypes towards others. And of course we hope that we will create an open and friendly atmosphere during our youth exchange.

We have applied for funds from the YOUTH IN ACTION programme and of course we hope to get a positive answer on our application. Regarding the priorities of the programme we do see the project as a possibility for young people to get the encourage to get more active within the own group and within the society. Further the programme is designed to promote understanding of and communication within a cultural diversity in an European context.

Within the project team we have youth trainers, youth workers and young people that are active within their youth organisation: Aleksandra Zachraj (Poland), Jesus Cirac (Spain), Marcus Hoinville (France), Susanne Seitz (Germany) and Petur Thorsteinsson (Iceland). The young participants are from five different organisation from five different countries, so we hope to have a really European Multicultural gathering.
