Summary of the project:Type of EVS: a group project for several activities
Location: The project will take place in the day center for single mothers “Nativity” in Sofia. The social center "Nativity” was established for financial and moral support and social stabilization of disadvantaged women. The priority group are women who raise their children on their own and the assistance provided to them aims to prevent the abandonment of their children in institutions. Besides the main target group there are mothers with several children, adoptive mothers, mothers without support because of domestic violence, mothers of sick children, mothers with mental and physical disabilities or other mental deficits and girls who have left orphanages.
Objectives: The project is aimed at the inclusion of three volunteers from the European Voluntary Service, who will work in the center for single mothers “Nativity” of Caritas in Sofia. For the aims of the project we need boys as volunteers because we believe that the single mothers are in need of male support and this will bring a sense of greater security and self confidence to them.
Activities:
Due to the specificity of the target group of the Center, composed exclusively of women, the need of men volunteers is evident. On one hand there is a need for reparation activities in the center, having in mind that the building of the center was provided 1 year ago. On the other hand some of our single mothers are in need of reparation, cleaning and refreshing activities in their homes for which they have no strength and capabilities to cope alone. The help of the volunteers would be invaluable for the health and well-being of the mothers and children.
Main activities:
1. Reparation activities in the premises of the center
(painting, shaping the space around the buildings, cleaning of the living quarters)
2. Reparation and sanitation activities in the homes of some single mothers
3. Production of household dolls, Easter eggs, ceramic tiles and other gift products designated for the children from orphanages.
4. Taking care of a few men from the Home for elderly people in Durvenitsa district, Sofia twice a month according to the agreement with the manager of the Home –help for walking, personal care, talks and others.
5.The volunteers will have the opportunity to participate in the trainings and seminars, organized by the young people from BYRC(Bulgarian Youth Red Cross). In addition to single mothers, they will interact with children from orphanages and old people from the Home in Durvenitsa where Caritas has employees. In this way they will be able to help more people and see the nature of the social work from different aspects.
Duration: The project will continue for 15 months and the activities for 12 months.
Number of volunteers: We expect three volunteers.
Countries involved: Caritas Bulgaria and the sending organizations.
Special considerations:yes. We would accept volunteers with fewer opportunities provided that we have the needed resources and capacities to cope with the respective cases.
