| Summary of the project: | Project Environment:
ProAtlântico - Associação Juvenil is a non-profit youth organisation, founded in 2001 in Oeiras Council (Porto Salvo), in Portugal and carries\r\nout projects with children, young people, elderly people, and disabled people. Most of the activities with children and young people are\r\nsports tournaments, National and International exchanges, Summer Camps, entertaining and cultural activities and after school, as educational support.
ProAtlântico develops leisure time projects in partnership with some Social Care organisations like Children’s Homes and Support Centers for Mentally and Physically Challenged People.
ProAtlântico also promotes projects at International level like Youth Exchanges and EVS around Europe and other countries of the world .\r\nProAtlântico is located in Oeiras Municipality. Oeiras is an important Village (45,8/km2) that offers the dynamism of large number of inhabitants (162.124) mainly young, near Lisbon the capital of Portugal (15 minutes), and 20 minutes from Sintra - World Patrimony, and 10\r\nminutes from Cascais bay.
Tasks for volunteer:
Activity 1 - Activities in the Youth Center/School Support
The EVS Volunteer will be able to take part in the school support and in the organization of Cultural, Sport and Leisure activities.
The young volunteers will have the chance to run these following activities:
- To help to create activities of occupation of free times: games, group dynamics, cooking workshops, fashion shows, p hotos exhibitions and\r\nthematic conversations;
- Monitoring and helping the children and youngsters in their homework\'s, helping more intensively in areas where he/she feels more comfortable (for instance: English language tutoring, Math\'s, Geography, etc ), but also motivating them to study and to complete their objectives;
- Support in organizing the space for the youth: the adequate organization of the space is important for the specificities of the activities implemented
- Promote games and activities during the school breaks.
- Organisation of activities related to special events (Christmas, Easter, Carnival, Summer), organisation of sports tournaments (ping -pong,football, traditional games, etc.)
Activity 2 – Media and Communication
- Divulgation of ProAtlântico projects: the EVS volunteer can contribute by making posters for activities, editing the webpage of ProAtlântico, create flyers for divulgation of projects, make promotional videos, and write articles and pre ss releases for newspapers and magazines.
- Establish contacts with other organizations, from European countries, in order to promote exchanges;
There are also general tasks for both activities:
- Promote European Voluntary Service and other youth activities: organise exhibitions and presentations in schools and in youth clubs (give visibility to EVS activity, in order to motivate more young people to participate on EVS and in other youth activities like youth exchanges)
- Participation in the planning of the work: the volunteers will attend to the planning meetings (propose ideas to implement, propose solutions for specific problems, become aware of the working methodologies of the organisation, place their doubts or questions about the work, evaluate, etc)
- Personal project: promote a personal project, that comes in accordance with the regular philosophy of the institution.
Profile of the volunteer: The Youth Centre is run by Portuguese and EVS volunteers, so we are looking for volunteers with self initiative, that have a special interest or some previous experience to work with children and youth, creative, flexible, with handwork skills, opened to work with people of all backgrounds and cultures; mature to work and to relate to a group of social disadvantaged children and people; willing to develop new activities and with sense of responsibility. |
