We are planning to make a youth exchange (action 1.1 of Youth in Action Program) in Burdur, Turkey.

Culture based activity

The idea of the youth exchange project is that young people from different European countries display their own culture via music,folk dance, traditional games\foods and literature. The activity would be based upon stereotypes and cultural differences and will take place in Burdur, Turkey. The project team will be composed of 30 youngsters from six countries between the age of 17-25, including the hosting country and group leaders.

The planned date of the activity is between 20 September 2010 and 28 September 2010 (excluding travelling days).

The target audience of the activities will be high school students and public. This project aims to offer a clearer insight into different cultures, ways of life and common misperceptions. As result of this, communication obstacles and common stereotypes shall be avoided in the future. It also tries to promote art and culture as succesful ways of informal learning.

The method to achieve these goals will be based on different skills such as singing,dancing and acting. These activities shall be the result of the cooperation and working together of the members of the project. The participants will be provided with the basic ideas , but they are expected to contribute with their own ideas and personal experiences. As mentioned above, the participants will be encouraged to take an active part in the decisions of choosing the activities they will perform, they are also encouraged to bring their own instruments, traditional costumes and anything they consider might be of use for the activities.

As the hosting city has a lack of investment and the local people have a very limited contact with other cultures and nationalities, it is a perfect opportunity to create strong international bonds in Burdur. At the same time this youth exchange programme provides a better understanding of Turkish culture and daily life for the European participants.
