Summary of the project:Dear friends:

Code-X International is planning a Youth in Action Youth Exchange project, ‘Me, my clothes and I: Undressing the policies of Fashion ’. The main goal of this project is to bring young people together to discuss the common interest; wearing clothes of your interest. We intend to analyse the politics behind clothes, and try to understand the social, cultural and economic significance of clothing. We hope to bring cultural awareness to this issue by addressing how it affects the lives of young people from different backgrounds.

In order to develop this we are looking for Five Programme countries willing to participate. We are looking for potential partners preferably from Italy, Ireland, Sweden, Poland, and Turkey.

Clothing, everybody wears them, but did you ever think of what message you send?
Clothes and politics are two very different concepts; so where do they meet? This project will show this by examining the economy of clothes and child labour; we will analyse how it affects the environment and recycling; and finally, we will discuss discrimination trough clothing and the freedom we have to wear our own clothes.

Additionally, we want to encourage young people’s participation in local, regional /national and/or European political activities. We will therefore use methods like debating and interactive lectures in cooperation with experts, delegates of organisations and decision makers. The last objective is to improve the interaction between young people from different backgrounds/cultures. We plan to encourage this type of intercultural exchange through museum visits, festivals and other cultural activities.

Who is invited?
Our target group consists of youth between the ages of 18 and 30. As our goal is to bring young people together with common interests. We have choosen (preferably) youth from Italy, Ireland, Sweden, Poland and Turkey. Each organisation is allowed to send four partipicians for the project.

Why this theme?
Clothing has a range of social and cultural functions, such as individual, occupational, religious, sexual differentiation, and social status. Clothing may also function as a form of adornment and an expression of personal taste or style.

When will it be?
We will have activities during 6 days; from Monday 11nd of July till Saturday 16th of July, with travels days set on 10th of July till 17th of July (Sundays).

Where will it be?
Culemborg, the Netherlands.

What are the costs involved?
We are applying for funding through the European Union, Youth in Action Program, this means that the accommodation, meals and activities will be fully covered. And 70% of the full travel costs will be taken care of. Your contribution will be to pay the remaining 30% of the travel costs.
